Two Men Named Jimmy Caras

Our story has a meaningful connection to two separate Caras families whose paths crossed in Wilmington, Delaware—and two men who shared the name James “Jimmy” Caras.

One was the world champion Jimmy Caras, known as the “Boy Wonder,” who spent years touring for Brunswick. The other was our family’s Jimmy Caras, an accomplished pool player in his own right who moved from Wilmington to Baltimore, where he owned a pool room.

They knew each other through their Delaware days. But while one Jimmy became known for his championship career, the other holds a special place in our story for a different reason: he took in my mother and aunt as children and raised them in Baltimore.

That distinction matters to us. Our connection to the world champion is one of friendship between two families. Our connection to the Jimmy who raised my mother and aunt is one of care, generosity, and belonging.

Growing up with that connection helped shape my lifelong love of shooting pool, playing ping pong, and the atmosphere of a room where people come together over a game.
